Still having problems with Xbox Christmas Lights - update

Still having problems with Xbox Christmas Lights Well i decided it was time to ditch the box and get a new one. But i appears to be having problems yet again! When i put in the large hard drive from my previous xbox i get the Christmas lights. When i put in a disc of xbmc that worked in my previous xbox, i still get Christmas lights! I don't know what I'm doing wrong! When the original hard drive is back in the box, when the chip is turned off i get the ms dash - same with when the chip is turned on! But with the large hard drive with evox and xbmc on it, i get Christmas lights - whether the chip is turned on OR off!!! Would i need to reflash using the programmer? Are there any guides to this with pictures? Pictures are most helpful as i tried to set this programmer thingy up last night but no joy

-You know the hard drive is linked to the unique serial number of the EEPROM of the xbox right? If your HD is locked with the EEPROM number of your old xbox, you will need to unlock it (easist from the old xbox running config magic). Then put it in the new xbox and it should work. If you need you can then lock it again using config magic, to your new xbox EEPROM number.. -How are you trying to run evox & xmbc? If off a dvd, then maybe your drive cant read them (quite likely). If you're expecting them to magically appear when you turn the chip on, they won't as they're not installed on the stock HD. So it looks like you may have to give up on the old HD, and get a copy of evoX on dvd that you can read and start from scratch there. -Not all chips look for evoxdash.xbe. In fact they should fall back on msdash.xbe if they don't find it as well. So I'm still not sure your chip isn't working. I'd try experimenting with different cd-rws first before trying to flash the chip. I can't help with the flashing the chip I'm afraid, as mine just connected to usb, so sounds more straightforward than what you have. Try and get in touch with who supplied the chip? Was it pre-installed, in which case it should have a bios, or if you installed it yourself then yes you will probably need to flash it yourself.
