Since I'm having a Christmas wedding (Dec 23) and a reception at my home, I
thought it would be fun to make ornaments for my guests. I was thinking along
the lines of buying either clear or white christmas ornament balls, use a gold
marker to note our names and the date, and then finish with a decorative ribbon
on the top. Does anyone else have suggestions for decorating ornaments? |

-I would stay away from the name/date thing. Why not do a "love" "peace"
"joy", etc. theme (?) People will still look at them and think..."We go
that at Kristen & Joe's Wedding"... I have seen some great ornaments that are made by swirling metalic,
multicolored oil-based paints on water, then dipping the glass ornaments
into the water, creating a swirl effect. You then let them dry, and write
phrases on them in gold paint. -I was a bm in a wedding once and part of my bm gift was the champagne flute
at my spot on the table. The uselessness of a single champagne flute aside,
the HC had engraved everyone's names and their wedding date on them. Made
the thing completely useless to me. If it only had my name I could have
stuffed potpourri or something in it. In the case of Christmas ornament I'd
say maybe put their names on them in some small print and put some other
xmas sentiment on them related to love and peace like someone else
mentioned--or leave their names off all together. I like the ornament
idea--just definitely not the date and probably not even the name either
although I do have some ornaments on my tree with my name on them from
various places. -If you still want to give clear crystal ornaments, but want to go with the
advice of others and not print your name and wedding date, then you have other
options to consider. For instance, purchase packages of crystal ornaments.
They're rather inexpensive, sold in dozens, available at most craft shops.
Remove the metal cap from the top of the crystal ornaments and insert some red,
green, gold shimmering confetti or strips of curling ribbon (or maybe confetti
or ribbon in your wedding colors). Maybe even add a pair of fake gold or
silver wedding rings if the opening of the ornaments is wide enough. You might
even find mini silk flowers that could be put inside the ornaments that match
the flowers in your wedding bouquet or those used in the centerpieces of the
reception tables. There are lots of ideas for what to put inside the crystal
ornmanets that might serve as a nice reminder of your wedding. |
