I hope someone can give me an idea on how to cover a styrofoam ball with
fabric. I was watching HGTV and they were talking to a store owner who
showed a round victorian christmas ornaments covered in velvet with
pearls covering the top half of the ball and then small silk flowers at
the top with a loop. I know there is a "quilted" method using squares
of folded fabric and then there's one where you cut the fabric so it
looks like the end of an orange slice (the part the rind covers). These
you glue on or sew together. The one I saw on TV didn't appear to have
seams but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to
cover a styro ball with fabric so that it is smooth? |

-I haven't done it but I have seen it done and basically you use the pattern
that you would find on a tennis ball. I can't think how to explain it.
Probably someone will give you a better description than that. It was flat
stitched over the edges. I have used them with canvas and then you shape the
canvas and glue it on when finished, directly on to the styro. -If you look on Martha Stewart's website www.marthastewart.com , you will
find instructions and a template for covering ornaments in fabric. Hope
this helps you. -I don't really enjoy her much myself either, but I did watch her Christmas
special and had a good laugh at her first guest - Ana from SNL that always
does the parody of Martha. There's Martha doing her normal thing and
there's Ana doing her thing and they are doing it together. It was likely a
PR thing, but it was nice to see that Martha is loosening up a bit and
trying to inject some humor and not take *everything* so seriously |
