Victorian Christmas Decorations: It's A Wonderful Life

TBS played 'It's A Wonderful Life in the Black and White version. Now I know that this movie will be broadcast multiple times before Christmas... and I probably will see it at least twice more this season... but somehow, this movie jolted me smack dab into The Christmas Spirit. Sure it's sappy, sure it's sentimental, but there are few movies that can really make you feel so warm, and point out to you how truly wonderful your own life is, even if you don't realize it. And, heck, I'll admit it... I've seen it at least 2 dozen times, and I was STILL crying at the end." "Anyway, halfway through the movie, I started pulling out Christmas decorations, and on commercial breaks began the task of decorating the apartment for Christmas. I've only made a small start (I have 7 copier paper boxes filled with decorations and electric lights, as well as 3 artificial Christmas trees)Victorian Christmas Decorations: It's A Wonderful Life many of the stores in the area have had some Chrismas decorations and displays out as early as the week before Halloween. This is a bit early, even in MY estimation, and I am notorious for Christmas decorating, as early as I can get away with it. After Veteran's Day, I noticed a sharp increase in Christmas displays, commercials on TV for collections of Christmas songs, and even the good old Salvation Army bellringers with their pots. But it still seemed a bit early, not yet _really_ Christmas season. Was I waiting for Thanksgiving to pass? Not necessarily, as I am CERTAINLY not a traditionalist... yet somehow, as much as I love Christmas, and as much as I love to make the Christmas season last as long as possible, I didn't yet 'feel' Christmasy.

- I don't have to work Friday, so perhaps I'll start stringing up those exterior lights (part of the holiday spirit in Jez's home town is for people to deck out all the old, Victorian-era houses with tiny white lights that pick out the architectural details. When she gets her little Queen Anne cottage all lit up, it looks like a fairy tale). -I'm in the choir at church, and we've already started rehearsing Christmas music, so I'm getting 'in the spirit' quite early this year! I even played my Christmas Revels tape the other day. I know what you mean about December birthdays, Jezebel -- my whole family is full of them. Including mine, which always comes just after Thanksgiving, so half my friends were usually out of town the weekend I wanted to have a birthday party. My older brother's birthday is the 17th of December, and he came home from the hospital in an oversize stocking! But my parents were always very good about keeping our birthdays separate.
