i was wondering whether the wizards follow any religion They do celebrate Christmas with religious decorations and Easter
which are christian festivals. I don't remember reading anything in the books about them going to a
church or praying or anything like this Anyone who can explain? |

-Personally, I found their lack of religion thoroughly refreshing. -Not in these books. Historically, witches were thought to be
anit-christian though. They were thought to worship Satan, so any of
those religions now probably. Wiccan may come up but they consider
themselves white witches I guess. I guess you could argue this group
is more like that; but I prefer to think they are fictional characters
who live life the best they can and don't delve into any religion too
much, but adopt the best principals of them all. However, it does seem that JK has rooted them somewhat in the
non-practicing Christian religion. -If we argued this back say in the 50's, it'd be much different. the
problem is now that people are hedonists who don't even care these
days. They do what makes them happy and everyone gets into the
commercial aspects of the holidays. People aren't worshiping Satan
and they celebrate Halloween. I actually hear people who are not
African American now being invited to Kwanza ceremonies. I don't know
any Christian who will light a menorah etc but there are families who
have marriages of different faiths who celebrate both holidays of the
parents' religions. However, it's kind of sad to me, that it's all
disintegrated into this. Last year, for the first time ever, we did
NOT celebrate Christmas. We had a meal and talked about the meaning
of the holiday and gave each other a small gift. No trees, animated
figures etc. It was out of family sadness that we did this (tragedies
had happened) but we felt kind of free from it! |
