I was reading the thread where someone was donating money to a charity
instead of buying gifts and I would like to share a few of the unusual
gifts I'll be giving this year. 1. I donated 10$ to a local charity and in return, they get Santa to
call a child at home. So I'm getting them to call my 4 year old
cousin. After doing this, I found out that she went to the Santa
parade and she was disapointed because Santa didn't talk to her or
even look at her. She was so sad. I'm sure that getting a personal
phone call will fix this up! 2. My aunt (the mother of this cousin) is going through some rough
times, and I will be giving her a "coupon" that puts her child in my
care for a full day in any weekend after the holidays. I'm hoping that
she'll appreciate having a complete no commitement break from single
motherhood, and I get along great with the child, so I'm sure we're
going to have a nice day too. 3. My In Law's birthdays are very close to Christmas. We're going out
for supper tonight for my FIL's birthday. He really likes his beer, so
we're brining him somewhere where he gets a "beer train". You get
choices of beers, and they bring back 5 miniature sized beers in a
wooden train! It's really cute and I'm sure FIL will enjoy this more
than anything else. Other than that, I have also received an unusual gift. This one is
really material but it fits the subject, as it doesn't fit under the
tree :) My parents are giving me their piano! This is so exciting! We
just bought a house that can accomodate a piano, and my parents just
reorganized their living room and they don't really have room for the
piano. So we're getting it! I think I'm going to take up lessons
again. It's a "beginner" piano, basically a no name brand, but I've
been playing on it since I've been 8 years old, so it's going to be
nice to have this in our new house. What's left? I'm basically done with my shopping, except for the following: 1. My sister. For her birthday, I gave her cash for her Guatemala
trip, but now, I'm not sure what to do. I know that she wants Spanish
novels, but I have no clue where to get that. Any ideas? 2. We have this ~5$ gift exchange in my dad's family, the ones where
we can steal the other person's gift. The gift can be homemade or
bought, but we try to keep it around 5$. The trick, is that every
year, the gift has to start with a specific letter. This year, the
letter is O. The word can be French or English. Here are my choices up
to date: - Ovation (aren't there chocolates of this name? The mint ones) - That Orange Chocolate that has to be smacked before eating. I have
no clue what the name is. - ourson (teddy in French) I think this will be the most popular one,
so I'm trying to stay away from it. - oiseau (bird in French) There's lots I can do with this. A beanie
baby bird, maybe? - Any children's book with the character Oliver in it. - Olives (an expensive kind of olives, maybe?) - Oh Henry chocolate bars. - Ear warmers (ear is oreille in French) - Oreiller (pillow in French) The problem with this, is none are really funny. The funny ones are
the most popular ones. These are the more wacky ideas I have: - anything relating to ovaries. Don't know what, though. A book? - Toe warmers of some sort (toe is orteille in French) |

-Spanish as in Spanish language? I know Amazon has a huge selection. It's one
of their book sections. I realize you're in Canada and currency exchange is
a killer, but you may be able to get some ideas and have a local bookstore
order something. Most larger bookstores around here (Denver, CO) carry at
least a few titles in Spanish. -Do you have Chapters book store near you at all? They may also have a huge
selection of books, possibly some in spanish. I think they have a website also,
they're the Canadian version of Barnes & Noble -Don't forget Oreo's. You can probably get the scay colored Christmas
ones. (red and green filling). There *might* be stuffed animal (beanit
baby size) octopus... which is odd, though not overly helpful on my part. |
