My mom made quilts, by hand and machine. One year for Christmas I told
her I wanted her to make me a quilt instead of buying something, so she
let me pick out the design -- "Attic Windows." My mom finished what I think are all of the blocks, and then she died that
year, before Christmas. I'm not exactly a sewing person but kept telling
myself I could find the pattern and work it out as soon as I got the
sewing machine fixed. Well, it's been nine years now, the sewing
machine's still broken, and I just want my quilt finished. Are there reliable services that do this for a fee? Should I ask in
quilting / crafting type shops? I don't want to give these precious
blocks to just anyone, they were my mom's last "tangible" gifts to me and I
cherish them. |

-that would be willing to finish the quilt for you. Even if you can't get it
finished, hold on to those blocks with all your heart. They will forever
remind you of your mother and the love she had for you. -I live in a small town and I'm sure it would not work the same in a
large city, however, here I would ask the quilting group at the senior
citizen's center. There would be a fee, but now as much as with a
commercial outfit and your story would evoke much loving care I'm sure.
Another group would be your church bible study or quilter's group -Why don't you check with your local quilt shop, they could
probably put you in touch with a guild that could help you put it
together or perhaps recommend someone to do it for you. It might be a
wonderful Christmas gift to yourself to learn how to put the blocks
together yourself....a real connection to your Mother. |
