it was Cher's post asking about the size of an afghan that made us
think it might be good to include a few handmade items in one of the monthly
packages for the 11th MEU. I was wondering if we had enough "crafty" folks
in our group, and Cher suggested posting here. Last year my school class
made Christmas ornaments and decorations that the troops used to decorate
their messhall tent and sleeping areas. One of our girls received a photo
from the local chaplain. I also try to send them boxes of greeting cards
they can use to send home to friends and family. This year I think I will
try to find some greeting card kits...I am thinking that some of the girls
might like to do that in their spare time, since they are in rear area
support units. Does anyone know of a good source for bulk embroidery hoops? I found a lot
of cross-stitch and crewel kits on eBay, but I need to send needles and
hoops to make these usable.
Is anyone aware of any efforts to send knitted items to units of the
Canadian military? |

-I think she may have already adopted the 11th MEU and
the girls on Ship Support make lots of handmade gifts. Perhaps you could
co-ordinate with her. If you would like the scrunchie pattern I am writing
at present you are welcome. I make them to send to Beca to distribute to
the female marines. I will be publishing the pattern, probably tomorrow
when I have had time to word process it because there will probably be other
members of RCTY who would like it for their own use or for charities they
are already involved in. If you would like my hat patterns and other things
I have written for the Troops you are welcome. The 11th are a wonderful
bunch and I am sure they would love anything you make them. -Have you tried the Dollar Store? I've been unpacking boxes and stocking
shelves for them and noticed that they have a lot of stuff....you might find
some there. - We just bought some small little houses for a
birthday gift for a friend who has everything. We can't get over all the detail
in the statues and only a dollar. |
