After dealing with my DH's procrastination and (unintended) last minute
gift suggestions, I'm wondering how many other people (who buy
Christmas presents) leave their shopping 'til the week before Christmas
Any other last minute folks? By design or preference? |

-DH and I will be shopping for each other tonight or tomorrow
night. Hopefully. I hate letting it go this late, but DH was too sick
to get out of bed last night. I don't think that either of us knows
what we are going to get, so it will make shopping that much worse. In general, I refuse to shop until after Thanksgiving. My preference is
sometime around the 15th of December. Mostly because this is when my
father and I used to do the Christmas shopping when I was little. He
was a teacher, and he and I would go when we started winter break. I
always liked shopping with him, so I still like to wait until closer to
Christmas. -I'm a late shopper this year, but not by design or preference! Just
due to being really sick and overworked in the weeks between
Thanksgiving and now. In addition to a few things I'd gotten earlier
in the year, I got some shopping done in mid-November, but then (because I felt ahead of the game) I forgot to worry about it again
until last weekend. Sigh. I was planning to finish up tonight, but
the forecast is calling for "wintery mix", so I think I'll take some
extra time at lunch instead for safety's sake. -Tempting as it might be to wait until the last minute, I don't
do it. For one thing, I do lots of shopping online, so that makes it
both easy to do early and imperative that it be done early to guarantee
shipping. For another thing, I live in what feels like the Christmas Shopping
Capital of the Universe -- NYC gets utterly unbearable starting the day
after Thanksgiving (there was a *line* to get on the *escalator* in
Macys last week!), and I have no desire to brave millions of tourists
to get what I need (question: why come to the city to shop when sales
tax is much lower in the 'burbs and you can just park it at the mall
and do everything at once? I do not understand this. But I digress...) Plus, the few times I have pushed some shopping to the last minute, I
got stressed out about it, which pretty much ruined my holiday
experience. And finally, for the last several years I've worked right up to
Christmas Day, so I didn't have the chance to last-minute shop, even if
I wanted to! That said, I'm done shopping for gifts, but haven't set a menu and
shopped for food for Christmas Day yet...so I guess I *will* be doing
some last-minute shopping, just of a different kind |
