I have more than 30 family members and friends to buy for every
Christmas. Each year it gets harder to afford presents, so this year
I'm trying to think of nice but inexpensive gifts, or even something I
might be able to make. The list of people is quite diverse - people
from 2 months to 70 years, so it's tough.
inexpensive or homemade christmas gift ideas? |

This topic comes up with regularity, and always yields many good ideas, so a
Deja News search might be worth your time.
Is it possible that a substantial number of the people you exchange gifts
with might also be feeling burdened by the custom? Of course the first,
obvious thing that comes to mind is considering whether you can trim the
gift list. Especially with respect to multiple individual gifts when a
single gift to members of the same family might suffice.
If not, the second thing that comes to my mind is gifts of homemade food. If
you can cook at all, I think a trip to the library to find ideas would be
useful. The range of possibilities is almost unlimited, everything from
baked goods to gourmet vinegars. Another good idea, and depending on how the folks you exchange gifts with
are feeling about the Christmas gift-a-thon one that might make you the hero
of the holidays this year.
I did fail yesterday when I posted to mention one of my own favorite frugal
gifts. Picture frames are something you can often pick up inexpensively
throughout the year, and some major craft and housewares stores sell the
plain metal ones already complete with a mat. Many standard size greeting
cards look great just popped into a 9 X 12 frame with a 5 X 7 mat. It's
quick and simple to do, and easy to tailor to the taste of the recipient.
Some of my favorites are Mary Englebreit (individual) Christmas cards I did
for myself as Christmas decorations. The frames come with a little stand on
the back so they can sit on a table. |
