It may seem a bit early, but anyone who makes christmas (or
other holiday) presents knows that this is the time to start.
Does anyone have any easy, cheap, but wonderful ideas for gifts
for children birth-10 yr. and also some new parents and
Grandparents? |

When my daughter was 2, I bought some fingerpaints and some off-
white material. I cut the material in about 12" circles. Then she
made green fingerpaint handprints all around the edges of the circles,
and red thumbprints scattered on top of the green. With a hot glue
gun, I attached a green or red lace border around the circles, and
put them in embroidery hoops. When finished, they look like little
holly wreaths. It sounds messy, but it really only took one long
evening to put 7 of them together after they had dried, and they are
long lasting! Every one of them that she made 7 years ago still
gets hung every Xmas! You mention homemade in the subject, but don't list your skills. Here's
what we are going with here.
I am making mittens for all the relatives and friends who live north of
us. :-) Mittens and hats for the really young ones.
My daughters are making boxes that they are going to decorate with
cutouts from magazines, fabric, buttons and other miscellany (not
necessarily all of these things on one box). We will then shellac the
boxes and lids and fill them with something appropriate to the person
they are for (nuts for dad, butterscotch candies for gramma, and so on).
For their young friends, the girls are going to make stationary (please,
god, let me have spelt that right) with potato prints around the
borders.
Other gifts that we have made in the past include: handmade christmas
tree ornaments, flavoured oils and vinegars (one of my favorite food
gifts is a nice bottle with a cork filled with vinegar and vanilla beans
cut open length wise - let it sit on a window sill for several weeks
before you give it away), salsa and chips (the girls make the chips), and
greeting cards made from pressed flowers. |
