Diy Christmas Presents

I know it's been some time since then, but I've only just come online again, and am listening to my favourite present of this year (one that I requested, so of course it is) and I just think it's a nice topic, really. What makes a good Christmas present? Is it when someone surprises you by getting exactly what you wanted even though you never, directly, told them? I confess that has not happened to me, but I have been the giver in such situations and if the feeling of the giver, knowing they've got it right, is anywhere near as good as the feeling of the receiver has, then I guess it must be pretty spectacular! My definition of a good Christmas present is when someone listens to what you specifically say, then gives you that and more. Last Christmas I was particularly pleased when I put out a request to my family (breaking from the usual tradition of music, frivilous pretty household things and perfume) for a cordless drill. The lack of communication between siblings meant I ended up not only with a particularly good cordless drill that ain't gonna wear out in a hurry, but also a sander. That was my DIY Christmas. This year, my only specific request returned to the more normal request of music, and it is Dido's "Life for Rent" that I'm listening to for now. And which touches and pleases me. But I'm interested to know - what particular diy presents did people get that really pleased them, and why?

A bottle of single cask scotch whisky what I bought for myself ('coz only I am a member) but which I had to watch sitting under the tree with the tasting notes bumping around in my mind. I had a dram of it this evening as it happens and one thing I love about it is that at the end there is a tingling on the point of the tongue which in the notes is described as 'spritzig' but which I perceive as peppery. The only one I've had that does this. Knowing the bottle will change as the air gets at it increasingly, the prosepct of that journey as the year progresses means that I will always remember that bottle with the peppery tip.
