Discount Christmas Decorations, help?

We just got back from WDW on February 3rd. We have decided to make our trip an annual event, so we're currently planning another trip. Here's where I need some help. We're looking at another 6 night/7 day trip. We'd like to stay on a concierge floor of the GF main building. It will be me, my husband, our 4 year-old daughter and almost 2 year-old son. We used Discovery Magic on this last trip. Although a great plan, it's just too much for us. We used most of our wishes on meals, but we just can't eat all that the plan covers and HATE to know we're paying for something and not using it to its fullest ; ) We'd love to go WITHOUT a plan, but that's not an option when I look at booking trips at disneyworld.com. The most basic I can get is Resort Magic. (1) Has anyone used RM and liked it? Basically all I see is that you get a character breakfast. We'd just like to get our Park Hopper passes and pay for our hotel. Can that be done, or does Disney require you to use a package? (2) We have never been to the water parks and don't plan on going. Is there a better pass that just includes admission to MK, Epcot, AK and MGM? (3) Which would you choose: week before Christmas (Dec 15-21, 2002) or a week in January (Jan 5-11, Jan 12-18, Jan 19-26)? How are crowds that week right before Christmas? We have been twice in January (1996 & 2002) and found there were hardly any crowds and minimal lines/wait times. There is the plus if having the Christmas decorations up, but if there are tons of people there we'll just go in January 2003. (4) Is it worth it to buy a membership to the Disney Club? Are the discounts on packages that good? We used AAA this last time and saved a couple of hundred dollars compared to prices at disneyworld.com, but if $30 could save us more with Disney Club, we'd gladly join. I have read about some people getting upgrades from moderate resorts, but I don't know if I'd be willing to chance making a reservation at a moderate when I really want to be at the GF. Is that a standard practice, or just something you luck into? Discount Christmas Decorations, help?

First off, you don't need a plan. Most folks here will tell you that, with a plan, you will always pay extra for items that you don't use or are of little value to you. I think you need to do some research - I'd recommend: www.mousesavers.com for tips on saving money on rooms, etc. www.wdwig.com for tips on most everything, but, a good section on park passes that should answer those questions. 1. Haven't used RM but, yes, you can just book a room and buy passes. Disney does not require a package. 2. Read the section from wdwig, above. 3. My preference has always been January but others will voice in here. 4. Only you can tell if the DC is worth it. If used properly, you will save money on admissions and, possibly rooms. They also offer discounts on car rental, merchandise at DD, and some meals. You might consider an Annual Pass for one of your party - those room discounts tend to be the highest. Last piece of advice...you have plenty of time to plan so check this website regularly. If you only lurk and read the posts of interest, you will learn tons and probably save a bunch of dough. You do not have to book a package, but again, that is all you can do on the web site. Call CRO at 407-WDISNEY and you can book just your room, then buy your passes later. If you do call and they answer as "Walt Disney Travel", then your call has rolled over from CRO to WDTC which has different rules. However, if you make it clear that you want a room-only reservation, you can still do that. Also, you might want to book under the CRO rules (whch WDTC can do on a room-only ressie) so you have the flexibility to cancel up to 5 days prior to arrivasl, and you don;t have to pre-pay the whole package (you pay a one night deposit, the the remainder at acheck-in).
