Welp, before that 'twas the trip up to the 'lil Lutheran church this
morning. Kinda funny thing there this AM... the pastor had no
officiating
in the service. Because I am mostly out of the "loop", unbeknown to us
was that the service today was all done by the flock! The pastor only
got up to say "Howdy" to all the folks and announce the good news from
the the flock. Amongst the things announced was that Suzanne's latest CT
Scan came back all warm and fuzzy and nothing was in there and that very
soon we will use the "R" word again!!! I was thinking that just maybe
there really is something to the church going and prayer and stuff like
that. I will have to ponder on it awhile. Meanwhile the flock presented
it's collective acts. The youngsters aged 18 down to 0 put on their
show. Some of the kids in jeans with the customary silver and gold belt
buckles typical of cowboys, some in designer cloths, all did their stuff
as best they could. Funny how the 'lil gals are more confident and do
their stuff with such refinement and the 'lil guys stammer and blush and
shuffle their feet and blush like crazy... very uncomfortable in the
roll and all the words they must speak in front of 50 people!! LOL!! The
young pastor sat with his wife in the pews. After it was over, the senior Elder caused the presentation of an
envelope to the young pastor and his family. I know what was in there,
it was the collective offerings of $$$$ that had been taken for several
months. The young pastor was kinda tearful. He made a small speech that
when he was in the Seminary, graduated, and the "callings" were being
announced, he told his wife that he thought for sure they were going to
Texas. Sure enough, when his name was called he learned that they were
called by the 'lil church in Devine, Texas. He told us that he had no
idea where the 'lil town was but was simply ecstatic that he and and
family were going back to Texas. (They had lived here once before whilst
in the military) Welp, I guess there really is divine providence! So, back to the rounds. We had baked a ton of cookies and stuffed some
tins with them. I made the rounds to our near and far neighbors late
this afternoon. Same stuff... drive in the place, greet the neighbors,
hand over the tin, extend the handshake and say "Merry Christmas". You
know... the regular stuff. Looks like a good one. I got the wish I sent Santa in the mail. All my
neighbors are well. By some miracle, there is a small package under the tree with my name on
it from Suzanne. I bet I know what it is..... the brass pepper mill I
made such a fuss over earlier this year! Kinda wish each and every one of you could see a big ol' white Ford
diesel Crew Cab in your driveway this evening.... It's me! I will hand
ya a tin of cookies, extend my hand and say the Cowboy way.... |
