We are now upon the best season for country driving: Fall. I will explain my
reasons on why I like driving in the country during Fall more than any other
season of the year. Note that this is based on the Mid-west and Great Lakes
climates. Fall: In the Fall, the scenery is the best with all the Fall Foilage, the
colorful leaves, and the fall flowers. You will sometimes see Halloween
decorations. The weather in September and October is usually sunny and warm,
and the sunsets during these months are beautiful. And, another reason, you
know that the weather will get worse in the weeks to come, so you want to do it
when you get a chance. Without a doubt, Fall is the best season to go to the
country. Summer: A close second to Fall, Summer is the best season for country driving.
It is often sunny (though you can have heavy rains), the trees are full of
leaves (although they are mostly all green during the Summer), the days are
long, and you are more likely to see people in their summer clothes (like men
wearing shorts and no shirt) during the summer. However, the main reason why
Summer rates below Fall is because it is often too hot to drive during the
Summer. I don't like to drive anytime the temperature is anything above 90'F (car gets hot), and everybody says with the ozone problems that you shouldn't
drive unless you have to when it's above 90'F. Spring: The Spring is better than Winter, but there are some reasons why I
don't care to take country rides too often during the Spring. For one thing,
the weather during the Spring is rarely sunny and is often cloudy, rainy,
and/or cold. Another thing, and that is opposite of Fall in that the weather
will get better in the weeks to come, making it more tempting to put if off
until next week. There is some good scenery to look at during the Spring like
Spring flowers, leaves sprouting on trees, and new plants growing, and the days
are getting longer, but Spring can not compare to Fall in terms of country
driving scenery. Winter: Ice, snow, cold, and short days. Need I say more? The only good scenery (in my opinion) that you might see during the Winter months are Christmas
decorations. Yes, Christmas decorations are pretty. But, who cares about
driving and seeing miles and miles of nothing except snow? Winter is, by far,
the WORST season for country driving. The trees are bare, the fields are mainly
bare if not snow-covered, and there is very little in the way of new plant
growth, color, or flowers during the Winter.. Besides, it's usually too cold to
drive during the Winter, and the days are too short during the Winter. The sun
sets around 4:30 PM. during December. (Too early!) In June, the sun does not
set until about 8:30 PM. |

In the South, the winter is ugly except for the rare snow days. Since
nobody here knows how to drive through a half inch of snow, all the
roads are closed. I wish they had the roads open when it snowed,
though. Also, Christmas is barely into winter. Most Christmas decorations are
down by January 6, but they come up in early December (which is well
into the fall). However, our days aren't as extreme, so that's an advantage, too. It
still gets too dark for road trips a lot in the winter. I agree with you on almost everything. |
