Best Movie Christmas party

'The Desk Set' is a fine choice, but I'm partial to the Christmas costume party in Paris at the end of 'Everyone Says I Love You' where all the guests come dressed as the Marx Brothers. Even if the party starts to fizzle, you're still in Paris! On a more modest scale--and this is not at all what you had in mind, I realize--is the exchange of Christmas presents in 'Remember the Night', with Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck and his relatives. This has the same bittersweet heightened emotion of Christmas celebrations in times of danger, as in WW2 combat pictures, like 'Story of G.I. Joe'. And then there's 'Black Narcissus', where the drunken David Farrar and the bejewelled Sabu lurch into the chapel to join the scandalized nuns and bellow out Christmas hymns. (Of course, 'Die Hard' is wall-to-wall Christmas party, but...).

I'll be getting to "Remember the Night", "The Shop Around the Corner", "Stalag 17", "Trading Places" and "A Tree Goes in Brooklyn" when we get closer to the holidays. I watch these in December on a more regular basis than more traditional holiday movies, anyway. But Kate, Spence and "Desk Set" are always a good place to start
