I think I'm done putting out the Christmas decor. Now it's Tom's
turn to put the outside lights up. We got our tree the day after
Thanksgiving. This year it's a whopping 8 footer. Getting bigger every
year -- to fit all the goodies on it. It usually takes me about a day to
get everything up. This year it took me, uh, lets see, Friday 11/27 -
today, that's 6-1/2 days. Persistance finally paid off. Is that pathetic
or what. Just the same, I'm extremely proud of myself just for getting it
done. These days getting things done takes on a whole new meaning. I'm
locked into putter gear.
Let me describe our tree... There are about 10 angels dawning the tree (last year's collection), this year I bought about 40 birds -- all
different sizes: little tiny red cardinals, a bunch of hummingbirds, some
medium sized pink feathered peacocks, 3 partridges, 3 peacocks, and 5
nesting doves, and 4 rather large white doves. All kinds of satin glass
balls victorian style, old fashioned decopage balls, little wooden toys and
dolls, plenty of crocheted snowflakes and gold/glittered snowflakes, the
tree garlands this year are jewels, red, gold, blue and crystal. This
year's tree topper is an incredibly beautiful angel dressed in purple and
copper robes with lovely gold wings.
The house decor consists of lights around the windows, lights going up the
banister with the garlands and beaded garlands and white bows, lights
around a couple of the tree plants. In the den on the fireplace mantle, we
have garlands of pine and pine cones with old fashioned looking (electric)
candlelights clipped on. There is a wooden Santa in the shape of a star
sitting in the center of the mantle, in the midst of the garlands and
lights, with our victorian stockings hanging at each end. We'll get a few
poinsettias to place around the house and on tables.
We've been playing Christmas music ever since we picked up the tree...
which is another thing. I can't remember the last time I played the stereo
or our CD's. Even though I've been pretty sick this last week, the music
has put me in the most spendid of moods. Both Tom and I were amazed at how
long its been since we played the stereo, since basically we are both
profound music lovers.
We have all kinds of Christmas music from your most traditional choir music
to Celtic, Rock, Jazz, etc... However as I post this, am listening to
Fleetwood Mac "The Dance." Wonderful renditions of their old stuff.
I was thinking today while finishing up putting boxes back in the garage
and then admiring my creative flare (okay, so I'm not so humble -- if
you're not going to toot your own horn, who is?) thinking to myself, I'm
ready for a rip roaring party with all my friends, with dancing and the
whole nine yards. Fat chance it'll actually happen, but sure would be a
kick.
This year, Tom's whole family will be here. This will be a first for us.
Two of his siblings live in the SF Bay area with their families, and his
other brother lives out in the desert east of Los Angeles. This will be
extremely special for Tom. I am so excited. His immediate family rarely
puts forth such energy to get together. Tom's still is getting over the
shock to his system, which has been replaced with shear joy.
And now I've finished my Christmas decorating story. BTW, the birds love
the lights. I thought Leroy, our cockatiel might like to sit in the tree
B4 lights and decor (being a bird and all) in that he's basically a
housebird, but no, he wanted no part of it. Guess he likes being a
housebird, preferring furnature to sit on or a shoulder. |

Your house decorations sound beautiful.
I love the Christmas season also.
I have a snowman collection that is growing too big for our house. My son also
collects Nutcrackers ever since his first Christmas, so now we have 16 or so.
But what I really wanted to tell you about is my cat Frankie. He loves the
tree, he takes a running leap off the stairs with his paws outstretched( looks
like a flying squirel and clings onto the tree, makes himself comfy and naps
and when he is finished he shakes the tree to come down. (Scared a few
visitors.) All my ornaments are different and we have bought a new one each
year for everyone, so the kids can each have a head start when they leave our
nest to make there own. Course, it is gonna be hard when they take some
sentimental ones, But my daughter says this will ensure always a visit from my
hubby and me to view their trees. They will keep this tradition alive for
their kids.
Every year I also hang tiny gingerbread men from the tree, cause Frankie likes
a bite or two. All the ornaments are tied to the tree with thin red cords in
bows, but Frankie still manages to knock a few down and when we put everything
away after Christmas we always find a few that Frankie squirled away under the
beds or under the couch. In the ten years we had Frankie he has yet to knock
the tree over.
This will be my first year without my much loved Beagle Skippy. He loved
Christmas too, especially the Gingerbread Men tied to the tree. They always
were missing arms and legs, one year he ate everyone including the red thin
cords from all the lower branches.
Tonight I am going to make a wreath out of cranberries. Then haul out my sewing
machine and get to work on my Christmas gifts that I make for my friends,
family and Clients. (should be interesting using my left arm, but the right one will be some help
if I am careful) |
