Good gifts for mom?
What movies would you buy your parents for Christmas? I got mine their first
DVD player last year and now mom wants movies. She likes '50s-'60s pics like
"Lilies of the Field", "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Inherit the Wind"...
Any other suggestions? I'm thinking the Criterion version of "Black
Narcissus" is looking pretty good.
And why the hell is "African Queen" not on DVD? |

-Well if it was my mom, Lawrence of Arabia, Night of the Hunter -If she likes Sidney Poitier and "Lillies of the Field" you can't go
wrong with "Patch of Blue." It was one of my mom's favorites and I
love it, too. I checked and it is out on DVD. -Then get those. Go to the store and browse, trying to remember which actors
and movies your parents have mentioned.
You might get a collection, such as the Cary Grant collection or the Alec
Guinness collection. (The latter is older than your period though, and both
collections had a lot of comedy - your selection wasn't comedy).
Do they like musicals? Do they like epics? Do they like war movies?
How about "Marty"? Hmmm, I just checked IMDB and Mutiny on the Bounty is
not available on DvD. I wonder why not. |
