Do you buy your boss a Christmas gift?
but I got several different answers on this topic and
thought I'd ask you guys. I was at a company for 10 years and started buying
my boss (who always bought me very expensive Christmas gifts) a gift. Each
year I tortured myself what to get her and started spending way too much.
I switched jobs in May and now am working for two people. Question is, do I
buy something small as some people told me to, or do not buy them anything as
other friends say they do at work, just send a card to their home?
Is there a proper gift for bosses and is it rude not to buy your boss a gift? |

-Does anyone else report to your bosses? You could always chip in for something.
I don't think it's necessarily rude not to give your boss a gift; I think you
just have to know what the informal policy at your company is. I used to work at
a place where traditionally the employees would all chip in for the boss's gift
and in return they'd get Christmas bonuses, but no gift. Then the office merged
with another one and we wound up with two bosses to shop for. After taxes and
paying for two gifts my Christmas bonus wound up being about $3. I didn't even
get a card from either boss. *That* was no good. Of course, you don't give to
receive but don't let spend a lot of time and money on someone who has little
interest in your happiness. -I personally think that shopping for a gift for your boss should
apply like for any other individual--shop accordingly. I've been at my company
for almost five years and I work for three attorneys. One of my attorneys is,
well, is cheap & self centered. I have always went out of my way both
profressionally & gift wise for this particular attorney. I was recently out
on disability and I didn't get a get well card from this bloke. Needless to
say, my two other attorneys will receive nice gifts (I am on budget though) and
this particular one will settle for a $5 small box of truffles (well they
always do say it is the thought that counts! -Yes I always buy my boss a gift. She has 5 people reporting to her and
she gives us gifts for Christmas AND Valentine's Day. Luckily, my boss
and I like a lot of the same things--so it's easy for me to shop for
her. I usually spend around $25. |
