Holiday Stress - How do YOU cope?

Holiday Stress - How do YOU cope? I'll admit, the holiday grip of stress is taking hold... I've just moved, and it's all I can do to reach a functioning level right now. I've made a decision to avoid the retail holiday syndrome that usually strikes. I remember when I was a kid, the holiday season would approach, my Mom would get edgy, and snap at us for every little thing. It was terrible. It was kinda like, "Ho, Ho, Friggin Ho, Merry Friggin X Mas..." I was always glad when it was over. THAT is what I remember most about Christmas. I want it to be different for my daughter, so I've started planning FREE and CHEAP christmas events - driving around the neighborhoods that really get lit up with lights, playing lots of Christmas music and singing at the top of my lungs with the kids, making sugar cookies with the kids and letting them frost them, no matter HOW wiped out the kitchen gets, making tree decorations with them out of construction paper and pipe cleaners and glitter and glue, reading about baby Jesus so they understand Christmas doesn't revolve around presents and Santa Clause, etc. I don't have a ton of money to spend on Christmas, but if I can provide a happy, warm, cheerful environment for the kids, I believe THAT will leave the greatest lasting impression on them. And if anyone has any more ideas on Christmas crafts and projects for 5 and 6 year olds, please share!

-Some sites for you http://www.family.go.com/ http://www.nickjr.com/grownups/home/printables/bob/index.jhtml?flashI... d=true&FlashVersion=5&TimeZone=-7 http://fp.enter.net/~markk/easybake.htm http://www.kidsdiscover.net/ Hope you can find something here:) -That's a real bummer, determined. As an adult I can honestly say I don't remember the gifts I received as a child (well there was one I remember). My memories of Christmas are attending midnight mass, being able to open one gift after returning home from church and tangerines and nuts in bowls around the house. My mother grew up during the depression and I think the tangerines and nuts were a reminder of her childhood. She always said these were treats to her as a child. -These are the types of things kids will remember. Most of my grandkids are teenagers and they still look forward to a drive around the neighborhood to look at the lights. You have more patience than I when it comes to kids in the kitchen. Baking was never one of life's little pleasures for me and my kids knew it. They were wise and retreated to the far end of the house when Mom was baking
