My kids loved this craft idea passed along to me this year. Hope it's not
already been posted...I'm new.
If you have been saving Reader's Digests for years, like me, here's a way to
make very cool Christmas tree tabletop decorations out of them. Pull out all
the thick paper ad inserts first. Then fold in from the upper right corner
into the seam. Fold up the lower right corner to meet the upper fold. Then
refold the page again from the upper right. You should see a tree shape. Do
this on every page. (Yes, it takes awhile!) Decorate with green or gold
spray paint (99 cents at Walmart) and some glitter or whatever you may have
to add. We made quite a few, and they look pretty nice sitting around on
shelves. The kids plan to give some to a local nursing home and neighbors. |

-t's nice to see Reader's Digests are still being recycled into
festive tree decorations. I hadn't thought about these for ages and it is a
good craft for the kids! Teaches them patience too. :) Thanks for the
flash back. I am building a frugal crafts site and may put this up there. -We used to make these when I was a kid at home. Mom would spray paint them
with different colors of glittery paint. I have a vivid memory of sitting
at the card table in our basement and folding them along with my sister. -Nice one Michelle. However it doesn't quite get one round the expense
of buying the tree on which to hang them.
One of my neighbours is rather elderly and can't get about much. Every
Christmas I go buy his tree for him. I then take my three young
children round to his house and we decorate his tree. So my neighbour
gets his tree, the children still have the excitement of decorating a
tree and I get to save a bit of cash. AND I don't have to vacuum up
pine needles between now and twelth night.
Everyone's a winner.
It's a bit cheeky I know, but we also eat Christmas lunch round there |
