Now that the holiday rush has settled down, I'm curious as to what were the
"big hits" of the holiday season. We are always surprised to find some
small toy that was thrown in as an afterthought turn out to be a "big hit."
In our family of two boys, 3 and 7, the hits were:
Discovery Toys Marble Works, this was a GIANT hit for both boys
Stick Pony, this was a gift from Grandma to the 3 y.o., it makes a cloppity
clop noise when you squeeze the ears
Big Word Search Book for the 7 y.o.--we work on this faithfully every night
at bedtime (this was a clearance special at $1.99)
So, misc.kidders, what turned out to be good Christmas/Hannukah/Birthday
presents in your house? |

-Ducky soap for our three-year-old. One of her aunties sent it. It far
eclipsed the Barbie and Barbie Kitchen sent by the other auntie, and was
second only to the dolly stroller that Santa brought.
Unfortunately it is already beginning to melt. -My daughter (then 2) got ducky soaps last year for Christmas and it was the same
story. She will not bathe without them to this day, so I keep hunting for new
sources and buying lots of them. You should see the looks I've gotten! -The 120-pc Fiddle Sticks set (like Tinker Toys, but still made of wood, and
larger) we gave my 4.5 YO daughter. She is still playing with it non-stop. I
read about these on either misc.kids or misc.consumers.frugal-living. They
are from Back to Basics Toys (misplaced their web address). Adults can't keep
their hands off of them, either!
Also, the battery powered Brio engine we got for our 21 month old son. We
already have a good collection of track, but he has a hard time pushing a
train all the way around without catastrophic results for the track (but he's
learning how to use the hand-powered ones more gently). But for "most bang
for the buck", it would have to be the set of 5 rubber balls from TRU ($1.99)
that we put in his stocking. Had he gotten only those for Christmas, he would
still have been completely happy! |
