best Christmas gifts mean ?
Yesterday, my sister and I went out to visit Mom at the nursing home to
attend the annual Christmas party. I bought Mom a nice Christmas sweatshirt
to wear and we french braided her hair and put a small red bow in it. There
was a photographer there to take family pictures and we were able to
persuade Mom to have her picture made with us. Not only that, but she also
consented to having a second pose done with me and my two youngest kids (who
also attended the party). AND the photographer told us that Mom smiled in
each one!
Now, I know that most people take something like that totally for granted
and very likely have all kinds of family pictures to display. But my mother
has not voluntarily had her picture taken since she was 25 yrs old and
married my father. (She is now 81) Nobody is quite sure why she has always
felt this way. There are three photos in existence that show something
besides the palm of her hand, but she is scowling so much in them that it's
hard to tell who she is.
I've waited 45 years to get to sit down with my mother for a photograph.
I've already gotten everything I wanted for Christmas. After this, the
rest will just be gravy! |

-A treasure to be cherished, I'm sure. I'm lucky to have some
audio and video tapes of my mother, made before that
damnable disease stole her awa -Although a last hand photograph also would have been
appreciated, I am sure. -I am glad that the best Christmas gifts cost nothing, but give so much joy &
happiness. -When my Mum died 4 years ago, we realised that we had no recent photograph,
she had successfully avoided the camera for years. |
