Anyone buying (or bought already) a "Baby's First Christmas" Ornament? What
does it look like?
I have two very special ones for Cameron and Riley that I love hanging on
the tree every year. They bring such good memories and they are so
adorable. I was looking forward to choosing one for Tavish but when I asked
Cam and Riley (jokingly) if they would do it, they said "yes". So I thought
it would be interesting to see what they choose. I expect it will be
hideous, but I will love it anyway. Please God, don't let there be a South
Park Mr. Hanky Ornament in existence. |

-We bought the ornament at Things remembered like we have done for the last
11 years. It is flat and gold in the shape of baby booties tied together
that says baby's first christmas. But since then her proud Daddy has bought
every "baby's first christmas" ornament he can find. -Lenox porcelain rocking horse (the only one I managed to buy for her first
Christmas)
Precious Moments pair of porcelain baby shoes (a gift last year)
Waterford crystal baby sleeping on a crystal moon
Crystal ball with a pair of silver baby shoes on top; it opens so you can put a
memento inside
Fitz & Floyd porcelain teddy bear
Silver locket-style with a sleeping baby, can put photo inside
Sterling teddy bear
Still trying to track down that elusive Wedgwood baby carriage!
And all, of course, say "Baby's First Christmas 1999" :-) If you didn't get a
chance to get one last year, or if you're like me and can't get enough, you can
always find them on eBay. -Starbug, what a lovely idea, having Cameron and Riley pick out Tavish's first
ornament! Please let us know what they choose!!
DS's baby's first christmas ornament has a bit of a story attached (what *else* is new?..lol). I was on bedrest, and suffered from a severe case of
pregnoia. There was no way I was going out shopping for a Baby's First
Christmas 1999 ornament. Although DS was due on 12/24, it was very possible
that he would be born after Christmas, or even in the year 2000, so buying a
1999 ornament seemed premature.
Well, he was born on 12/21/99. [I am very proud that I carried him so close to
due date, considering the problems we had]. He came home from the hospital on 12/23 (my birthday).
DS was readmitted to the hospital on Christmas for a pretty bad case of
jaundice, very elevated bilirubin and dehydration. We felt sick. My mother
had flown up from Florida, to be with us. To "cheer me up" (or rather, to take
my mind off of feeling helpless and worried), my mother figured we could go
Hallmark-Hopping (12/26 between shifts in the pedi ward), to search for a
Hallmark Baby's First Christmas 1999 Ornament.
Despite my tremendous physical pain, I went along for the ride. I couldn't get
out of the car, so I sat there while she would run into the stores. We drove
from minimall to minimall .....no luck....all sold out.
When my mother returned to sunny Palm Beach, Land of Major Malls and Ambiguous
Punch Cards, she hit every Hallmark "after Christmas Sale" she could find, in
search of the elusive 1999 ornament. Nada. [not that I'm really "into"
Hallmark ornaments, but this turned into quite the quest.....we were
determined, lol].
Since she couldn't find THE ornament, she ended up buying the following, to
compensate:
1999 Mom Stocking Hallmark Ornament
1999 Dad Stocking Hallmark Ornament
1999 Grandson Bear Hallmark Ornament
1999 Commemorative Stamp Hallmark Ornament (Cat in the Hat)
In mid-January 2000, DH's workplace threw us a huge baby shower. (we were too
pregnoid to have one *before* the baby was born). About two weeks after the
shower, a coworker returned from vacation. She was unable to attend the
shower, but gave us a little gift.........THE HALLMARK 1999 BABY's FIRST
CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT! I was floored when I opened it! The coworker had no
knowledge of our "mission". Believe me, she got quite the Thank You card! (btw, it is a Noah's Ark photo frame) |
