I remember Filene's basement and Raymond's from my
kidnikhood. I remember also the animated Christmas decorations in Jordan Marsh's
main store downtown. There was a whole block of store with a whole block of
decorated windows. We made a special trip in on the bus every Christmas to see
those. Hmm. Boston -- the Museum of Science, the green monster at Fenway Park,
the Boston Pops shell, the old State House, Old Ironsides, Swan boats on the
common, the stone bridge across the Charles River between Boston and Cambridge
at the Harvard crew docks, (my vote for instant Boston picture), lots of Boston
photo subjects. Now the new thing will be that nifty new suspension bridge. Is
that up now? I know that was part of the Big Dig project but I don't know where
they are with that. |

I think Raymond's has been gone for a long time. main store downtown. There was a whole block of store with a whole block of decorated windows. We made a special trip in on the bus every Christmas to see those.
From an ad I heard, I think Jordan Marsh (now Macy's) must have donated (or loaned?) that to the city. I believe it was on display somewhere in Government Center (the old Scollay Square).
Boston -- the Museum of Science, Still there; now has an Omnimax Theatre. the green monster at Fenway Park,Still there, although they keep threatening to tear it down.Still there.
the old State House, Old Ironsides,
Obviously not going anywhere. Swan boats on the Actually in the Public Gardens, which is across Charles St. from
the Common--but you were a kidnik. the stone bridge across the Charles River between Boston and
Cambridge All just a-waiting. Now the new thing will be that nifty new suspension bridge. It's uo but still being worked on. Drove by it yesterday on the way to get the new monitor. It is VERY nice-looking. It might be
interesting to have different color lights on the various parts of the structure. I know that was part of the Big Dig project but I don't know where they are with that.
The just opened the connector from the Mass Pike to the airport.
That cuts a lot of time from the commute. Other than that curious
minds want to know why TPTB did not plan for greater capacity? |
